A minute and 40 seconds into the trailer of HARD KAUR, Drishtti Grewal’s outburst hints at the angst and disgust women have inside them whenever they are harassed by the society. And when this angst comes out, it can be quite explosive for anyone who is standing against them.
Director Ajit Ramsingh Rajpal’s HARD KAURs’ trailer quickly establishes that Satwant Kaur (Nirmal Rishi) is killed and the blame is falsely put on a siddi saadi kudi Sirat Kaur (Deana Uppal). The trailer further reveals that Sirat Kaur was stalked and harassed by a rich and spoilt brat and he had falsely implicated her in the murder of Satwant Kaur. Lawyer Amarjit Kaur (Drishtii Grewal) fights Sirat Kaur’s case and hence follows the courtroom drama. Some heavyweight dialogues are exchanged between the lawyers. The trailer ends on a high with Amarjit Kaur sarcastically blaming girls for being wrong if they travel alone in a bus.
HARD KAUR’s trailer is undoubtedly one of the most hard hitting one’s that Punjabi cinema has ever seen. The film is based on women empowerment and the trailer suggests the good vs evil and women vs society’s thinking kind of story. It would be interesting to see how these ‘5 Kaurs’ would make an impact on mindset of girls of Punjab who tend to keep mum when they are harassed. The director and writer deserve brownie points for trying an offbeat theme and making a women oriented movie.
Deana Uppal and Drishtii Grewal are the main protagonists and both have contrasting roles. Whereas Deana’s character is a simple and uncomplicated girl with a ‘do no harm’ attitude, Drishtii’s is a fiery and hotheaded girl with a ‘take no sh*t’ approach to life. Drishtii’s dialogue “Mera naa hai Amarjit Kaur…..” raises goosebumps. With super talented Nirmal Rishi on board, viewers can expect some high quality drama and power packed courtroom scenes from HARD KAUR.
